Job Summary:

The Private Sector Driven Agricultural Growth (PSDAG) project is a five-year (August 2014- August 2019) USAID-funded initiative implemented by Research Triangle Institute (RTI) with the aim of increasing smallholder incomes by promoting private sector investment. PSDAG has two primary complementary objectives are: (1) To assist the Government of Rwandan (GOR) to increase private sector investment, and (2) To facilitate increased private sector investment by upgrading agricultural value chains.

The Communications Specialist is responsible for development and implementation of relevant communications approaches and tools to support documentation and dissemination of progress, achievements and success stories of planned activities under objectives 1&2. S/he will also be responsible for putting in place systems and tools to ensure implementation of marking and branding plan in compliance with USAID and RTI branding requirements. S/he will use USAID Automated Directive System (ADS) 320.3.2 to advise and guide PSDAG to ensure compliance with USAID branding policy.

Essential Duties:

  • Develop communication tools and approaches to document and disseminate achievements and success stories from implementation of project activities;
  • Liaise with RTI Home Office and USAID communications focal persons to ensure all project technical materials are in compliance with USAID branding and marking standards;
  • Identify and implement innovative approaches to disseminate information about project implementation progress and results, to project partners and external stakeholders;
  • Prepare project success stories, factsheets, information bulletins, briefs, updates and other publications for internal and external use;
  • Ensure project staff, grantees, and service providers comply with USAID marking and branding standards and requirements;
  • Supervise all activities carried out by service providers sub-contracted to provide communications, branding, marketing and events organization services;
  • Ensure proper visibility of the project in all intervention areas under various partnership mechanisms (grant agreements and or Memorandum of Understanding [MOU]);
  • Ensure communications are consistent in messaging across the project and aligned with the overall project goal, objectives and implementation strategies;
  • Prepare press releases and circulate approved versions to media outlets to ensure coverage of project activities (project launches, strategic project events) and achievements;
  • Liaise with the press to ensure communication of project’s achievements and success stories in newspapers, local radio stations, magazines, and social media;
  • Produce USAID-branded materials (banners, flyers) for use during project events (stakeholder meetings, launches, signing ceremonies, workshops);
  • Ensure all project staff have branded communication materials (business cards, T-shirts, caps, badges, and email signatures);
  • Ensure adherence to USAID guidelines in co-branding communication materials (banners, posters, signage);
  • Ensure PSDAG’s administrative materials, including business cards, stationery, offices and vehicles are properly branded in line with USAID branding and marking guidelines;
  • Use social media channels (Twitter) to communicate project activities, events and results;
  • Prepare logistics and materials (agenda, briefer) required during USAID’s field visits;
  • Provide guidance to project staff, private partners and subcontractors to ensure USAID branding of project activities, documents (reports, training documents), equipment and other materials;
  • Carry out any other duties within the position responsibilities assigned by the Chief of Party or M&E Specialist.
