Opportunity for Individual Consultancy services

To facilitate a TOT on couple communication within Gikuriro Program

1.    CONTEXT AND BACKGROUND

CRS Rwanda is implementing a 5 years USAID funded Integrated Nutrition and WASH Activity (INWA), locally named GIKURIRO aiming at improving the nutritional status of women of reproductive age and children under five years of age, with an emphasis on the 1,000-day window of opportunity from pregnancy until a child’s second birthday.

Following the results of Gikuriro gender analysis as well as Gikuriro barrier analysis, it has been found that gender inequality, including GBV, in Rwanda affects women’s and children’s nutrition and health status.

Reference done to the existing studies: Household conflict and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) were mentioned as existing barriers to household nutrition and WASH desired outcome

Taking gender into account is critical to reach Gikuriro’s objectives; gender dynamics at HH level, particularly those that exist between husbands and wives, can play an important role in the way nutrition and WASH behaviors are practiced and sustained. After the gender analysis conducted in FY16 that showed how gender dynamics within the HH influence nutrition outcomes, in FY17, Gikuriro integrated fathers in its VNS approach using parents Lumiere (Papas et Mamans Lumiere) to support nutrition activities at community level.

In order to synchronize/expand the effort, in FY19, Gikuriro planned to address one of the root causes of malnutrition by building skills of parents on harmonious family relationship and communication among couples.
