Opened as a middle school (O Level) for 180 girls in 2008, it quickly achieved a national reputation for excellence, and has ranked in the top tier of middle schools in the country every year since its first class graduated in 2010.  In January of 2017 the enrollment of the school will be complete at 400 girls, including the high school years (A Level).  The high school of science and technology currently offers combinations in PCB (Physics, Chemistry and Biology),  PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics), and MPC (Mathematics, Physics , Computer Science).The Maranyundo girls and their families have chosen this school with these combinations and with its history of excellence because the girls intend to go on to university, at home or abroad.

The career and college counselling program will support students as they prepare for colleges in Rwanda, in Africa, internationally, and in the United States. The Maranyundo Director of College Counseling will work with students on an individual basis to identify the best university fit, assist with college applications, administer SAT/ACT/TOEFL prep, and support college essay writing and interviewing processes. This person will also be active in the International Association for College Admission Counselling (IACAC) as a platform for promoting Maranyundo and the girls and for inviting college admissions people to campus. This person will also set up programing within the school curriculum to support the girls preparation for applications to and success in their post secondary education. The qualified candidate will be ambitious, results-oriented, highly organized, energetic and committed to the future Maranyundo students. Previous experience with college admissions and counselling would be great, but not required.

Responsibilities:

·         Show dedication to the success of every Maranyundo student and a commitment to finding the right fit for each girl.

·         Advocate on behalf of the Maranyundo Girls School and students to potential colleges and universities around the world

·         Guide students through an individual process of self-discovery, help them identify their interests and ambitions, brainstorm authentic essay topics, and advise students on a comprehensive and cohesive college application.

·         Help students identify target schools that are good fits for them academically and socially, and  fit within their financial needs.

·         Work with S5 students to help them understand the college and career decision process and work with them to select in school and out of school activities to build their resume

·         Provide detail-oriented guidance on all components of students’ university applications, including school list generation, personal statement development, resume polishing, and interview preparation.

·         Support data-driven SAT/ACT/TOEFL test prep as needed to support students in reaching their college goals.

·         Represent the Maranyundo Girls School at appropriate NACAC and IACAC events. The school will fund two international trips abroad to attend college fairs and visit colleges.

·         Develop and maintain strong partnerships with college and universities and encourage admissions officers to visit the campus and meet with students.

·         Craft compelling communications materials to inform admissions officers about the school, students, programs, and successes at the school and help build name recognition and the reputation of the school outside of Rwanda.

·         Maintain the website blog and college visit calendar

·         Form and maintain partnerships with firms working in a wide variety of STEM fields and community organizations to connect students to internships, volunteer opportunities, field trips, job-shadowing, and informational interviews to help students build their resumes.

·         Manage 2-5 interns who will be assisting the Dir of College Counselling

Skills:

·         High level of organizational sophistication and understanding of college counseling processes.

·         Knowledge of, or commitment to researching existing career development, mentorship, and gap-year programming for students.

·         Ability to connect on an individual basis with 60 S5 and 60 S6 students each year to match each student with the most advantageous resources and career support services.

·         Knowledge of and experience in applying to universities outside of Rwanda, including but not limited to the US.

·         Familiarity with Kuder Career online career development and planning resources

·         Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Qualifications Required:

·         Have fluent English skills, with strong reading, writing, and public speaking abilities

·         Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Psychology or related from an accredited institution. Preferred, Master’s in College Counseling.

·         Previous experience in teaching or educational counseling or university admissions. Preferred, at least 2 years of experience in college counseling for High School Students.

·         Familiarity with internet research, edvanto, email, and word processing programs such as Microsoft Word, or Google Docs and the ability to teach the girls to use all necessary and appropriate software..

·         Commitment to remaining at Maranyundo Girls School for at least 3 years to establish the program.

Salary, benefits, and performance based bonus will be commensurate with experience as determined by the Head of School.

1200 Australian Government Commonwealth Scholarships for South Australia

The new Commonwealth Scholarships Program for South Australia is now available for Australian students. This scholarship offers support for a minimum of 1200 undergraduate, postgraduate and vocational education and training students to undertake study, training, and internships in South Australia.

The Program aims to improve skills and employment opportunities linked to priority industries in South Australia, by providing financial support for students to gain qualifications in state-based skills needs and receive industry based workplace learning, connecting study and training to real jobs.

Scholarship Description: 

  • Applications deadline: January 8, 2018
  • Course Level: The Program provides opportunities for a minimum of 1200 Australian postgraduate, undergraduate and VET students to undertake study and training in South Australia and participate in an internship in South Australia.
  • Study Subject: Applications will be accepted from persons who are intending to undertake an Approved Program of Study that would lead to employment in one of the priority industries listed below.
  • Stream 1: Defence industry, including naval shipbuilding. As a guide and subject to sufficient suitable applicants, 30 percent of Scholarship places will be made available for this stream.
  • Stream 2: Advanced manufacturing, health services and medical research, tourism and hospitality, wine and food, and energy and resources. Applications will also be accepted from students who intend to study in a field that is relevant to, and are currently employed by, businesses with innovative practices that result in economic growth7. As a guide and subject to sufficient suitable applicants, 40 percent of Scholarship places will be made available for the industries listed in this stream.
  • Stream 3: South Australian State based skills needs. Any occupation listed on the Australian Government Department of Employment’s Skills Shortage List for South Australia will be eligible for a Scholarship.   • Up to $14,500 in study assistance to assist with education and training expenses
  • Up to $3,000 for a 20 day paid internship5 or a one-off payment in lieu of the internship requirement (refer to Section 4.7).

About Generation Rwanda/Kepler

Generation Rwanda began in 2004 and has supported young people in Rwanda in achieving their higher education goals through scholarships for universities throughout the country. In 2013, GR expanded its reach when it started Kepler.

Kepler is a nonprofit university program designed to deliver the skills that emerging economies need. Kepler combines the best of online learning and an American competency-based degree program with in-person seminars and intensive education-to-employment support.

About the Role:

Kepler is looking for a Lead Course Facilitator (CF) to oversee the support for students working toward their Bachelor of Arts degrees in Management, Communications, and Healthcare Management through SNHU’s College for America program. The main goal of this role is to design and implement support structures that will help students consistently complete their degrees in a timely manner. An additional purpose of this role is to contextualize the American based degree to the Rwandan and regional context and support independent exploration and understanding of how the degree is relevant to the Rwandan and regional workplace in order to help students transition effectively into the workplace. This Lead CF will work in collaboration with a team of Course Facilitators, the ACD for CfA, and various other staff members to ensure effective support of students from the transition from AA to BA degree and through the transition to employment after BA graduation.

Job Responsibilities:

Manage Course Facilitators and part-time employees to support students through the BA degree

Revise and edit current structures of CfA BA degree support

Collaborate with AA Degree Lead CF to strengthen the current CfA Panel Review system

Collaborate with the Academic Campus Director: CfA and Innovations to transition students from AA to BA degree

Collaborate with the Kepler Data Manager to collect, manage and share data of CfA BA progress with the broader academic team

Instruct non-native English speakers to rapidly improve English fluency through a competency-based, blended learning curriculum

Conduct class sessions as well as study groups  in a variety of content areas to support student basic skill acquisition as related to College for America.

Build courses (curriculum delivery and communication regarding curriculum) through a Learning Management System online.

Grade competency-based work and provide student feedback in a timely manner (48 hour turnaround max)

Collaborate with the Director of Curriculum and curriculum coordinator to generate CfA BA degree scope and sequences, lesson plans and other curriculum that supports diverse learners to acquire necessary and relevant skills

Modify curriculum for applicability to the context and to best support students

Engage in team meetings to collaborate and build quality products for student consumption and use

Support student success on College for America

Create workshops and support courses to help students make informed decisions about choosing the appropriate BA degree.  

Collaborate with the Director of Careers and Alumni Affairs to support students into appropriate internships and careers as related to their field of study

Collaborate with Careers team to invite motivational guest speakers to share their experiences and inspire our students across different classes in CfA BA

Provide feedback on the program, curriculum and students to various stakeholders within the organization in a timely manner

Research MOOCs and other content delivery options to incorporate “flipped classroom models” that teach similar competencies to those found on CfA

Research and utilize effective online, in-person and blended learning teaching techniques
