Applied research

  • Conduct policy-oriented research in the areas of peace building and reconciliation with awareness of political policy and political context, governance and political processes to meet the demands of context-specific and thematic programme teams
  • Draft or contribute to a variety of products, including but not limited to research reports, activity reports, case studies, discussion notes, advocacy strategies, interview guides, and concept notes

Writing, drafting and editing documents

  • Compile literature reviews and contribute to research grant proposals, as needed, under the guidance of the Senior Research Coordinator

Administrative Support

As part of the office team, assist in general administrative duties. This may include making phone calls, sending invites and on-line publications to NAR stakeholders (local and international partners, civil society organisations, Government agencies, donors, local and international academics and other potential supporters); host visitors, support interns and volunteers. Being tasked to support key large organisational events.

Performance-related management

As a staff member of the organisation, you will be expected to undertake and manage staff performance appraisal formats (based on tasks and responsibilities undertaken) and complete an accompanying competency format (*how a task is undertaken, behaviour, skills and attitudes) for you and staff under your supervision. This will be undertaken 6-monthly and annually.

A work plan of yearly objectives will need to be produced between the line manager and employee at the start of the year in January, after the annual planning of yearly programme activities and events have been completed.

Qualification

Professional Experience, Knowledge and Skills

Minimum qualification: A postgraduate degree or an advanced degree in international conflict resolution, international relations, political science, law, governance or a related social science field with at least three 3-5 years of relevant work experience and demonstrated research learning and expertise.

  • Research skills in relevant social scientific disciplines

  • Familiarity with interdisciplinary research methodologies and conceptual frameworks (quantitative and qualitative methodologies)

5.    Job Responsibilities

a.    Manage and champion the Identification, Scoping, Implementation and Monitoring of Sales Improvement Projects
b.    Set and Implement Standards for Sales Channels Quality Assuranceacross East Africa.
c.    Offer leadership and guidance on sales agent network administration and ongoing sales channel management function in the region with a special focus on ensuring the agent, referral and sub-agent networks are performing optimally and delivering quality numbers for each country.

UNIC Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Student Photo Contest for International Students

The United Nations Information Centre, Tokyo (UNIC Tokyo) and Sophia University are, once again, co-organizing the student photo contest on SDGs with special cooperation from Getty Images Japan. The first photo contest was launched in Japan last year, amassing a total of 624 entries from 47 countries as far and wide as Afghanistan and Brazil. They welcome presently enrolled college and university students, graduate students, and vocational school students to apply.
We ask that you choose one or more of the 17 SDGs that inter
ests you most, and express what it means to you through a photo snapshot. We particularly encourage entries that depict elements of SDGs in your own community. A theme pertaining to the SDGs must also exist within your own country. This year, we will be having the TOGETHER Award and the Concept Award as new additions to the list of awards.
Contest Details:
This contest aims to encourage students to “reflect on sustainable development from his or her own perspective, express it through a photo, and share it with others.” We welcome photos that tell a story; they may come in a journalistic form, presenting a clear problem, or may be abstract and creative, representing your ideas and thoughts. What can you do to change the world? How will the SDGs influence the way you think or act? How can you inform your friends, family, and community members of social issues and prompt them to take action? The answers to these questions will become key to achieving the SDGs. Position Overview:

The main objective of the Monitoring and Evaluation and Research Officer is to promote results management and evidence building activities within the HDI team. The Monitoring and Evaluation and Research Officer will be responsible for supporting the development of effective monitoring and evaluation systems, capacity building, and training activities in monitoring and evaluation and research topics. This person will be expected to maintain best practices in needs assessment, project design, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. Activities will include training and supporting staff in data collection, safe data storage, data analysis, data interpretation with good writing skills of scientific papers for scientific journals, and dissemination of the research findings with clear recommendation that can inform advocacy priorities and future interventions.

Responsibilities:

Monitoring, evaluation, and research support to programs:

  • Develop a strategy for data management, data collection, data analysis, and sharing and learning opportunities for the HDI projects
  • Support, coordinate, and harmonize monitoring and evaluation mechanisms and practices for HDI activities and projects
  • Develop organizational monitoring and evaluation tools, including frameworks, indicators, data collection methods, and data quality assurance measures
  • Review organizational monitoring and evaluation plan for each project and provide feedback on needs, trends, best practices, and priorities to help in the design of the future interventions

Capacity building:

  • Develop and deliver capacity building initiatives including training and monitoring for field staff based on gaps in specific areas of knowledge and practices related to monitoring and evaluation
  • Train technical staff on monitoring and evaluation tools, research tools, research methodology, database use, and data interpretation to improve data for decision making and future project design

Title: Logistics & Supply Chain Manager, East Africa

Purpose: Design, implement and monitor BBOXX’s logistics management processes and tools for the product range across the East African retail network
Responsibilities:
  • Create and deliver a vision for managing the rural retail logistics network used in moving inventory around the retail business in Rwanda and Kenya
  • Work closely with the Accounting team to ensure inventory holdings are captured accurately
  • Monitor and support shop inventory levels across East Africa
  • Train and guide relevant country staff on global processes, tools and improvements
